Wishing All the Best
By
Dr. Golam Rahman
The creation makes a man respected and remembered. For a developing country like ours, media has a much bigger and stronger role to play which was always ignored and instead it played an anti-people role for a long time. BTV as a media lost all its credibility due to its continued Pro-Govt role. Vulgar programmes coupled with biased news presentation are all what BTV does. In its long journey, Mat O Manush presented to the viewers the evolution of our agricultural revolution, which in turn took the shape of development journalism.
Hridoye Mati O Manush is the mirror of Shykh Seraj’s love and passion for his motherland and serves as a link for his love of the country. Shykh Seraj did not make agricultural programmes only, he gave agriculture a new dimension where the cultivation of land blended with fish cultivation, fish hatchery, fruits on the rooftops and poultry, inspired people tremendously. Shykh Seraj diverted the attention of the viewers from this cheap entertainment and inspired them with his programmes to do something for themselves and the country as well. That is why this development-oriented programme is equally popular to the urban and rural people. As we watch this programme, we learn new techniques and up to date information. For instance, how farmers should cultivate flood-resilient paddies, how they should manage seeds, and how agricultural researchers and policy makers can support the farmers during flood- all these issues are frequently represented in his programme. There has been radical development of agricultural technology now a days in different countries of the world. Mati O Manush showed how these new technologies could be applied in our country. Duck rearing in the paddy fields of Sylhet, or shrimp cultivation or using leaf colour charts for controlled usage of fertilizer in paddy fields, pest controle mechanism- all came out in details in Shykh Seraj’s presentations. Success stories of farmers have also been telecast in Hridoye Mati O Manush vividly. This success has inspired people to cultivate grapes and he has introduced tissue culture to the viewers.
The stories of development of different countries and the lessons to be learnt by us from these stories created interest in our viewers. Aromatic rice cultivation by farmers of Thailand, hybrid rice from China, diversity invented by Harry from Los Baños in Philippines, the experiments in Japan on farming artificial conditions are all depicted on the TV screen which made the people understand the real development. Besides, Shykh Seraj also introduced the viewers with the traditional floating cultivation in Barisal. At the same time, he discovered and introduced Haripada Kapali as a symbol of golden opportunities and an inventor of a new breed.
Shykh Seraj made himself unique by introducing so many new things. It is Shykh Seraj who made represented new breed of rice, new breed of fruits or flowers. Basically, our people are used to traditional concepts or values. So, it is a very challenging task to make our people adopt new things or practices, be it in agriculture. It is very difficult to bring any changes through media as people are used to traditional values for ages and not inclined to adapt to modern life or techniques. Shykh Seraj boosted them to give up the old and backdated issues through his programmes. Any country of the world would appreciate the way Shykh Seraj made us wonder about the modern technique of agriculture shown on the TV screen. Shykh Seraj’s Hridoye Mati O Manush has found its way into the hearts of the people for introducing the electronic mass media for communication and development. Among many entertaining programmes telecast by Channel-i, for its urban viewers, Hridoye Mati O Manush has been widely acclaimed by both urban and rural people. In our country, private satellite channels are more busy with the talk shows on political issues and not yet successful to deliver public service message. Against this backdrop, Hridoye Mati O Manush is a big exception. I hope Shykh Seraj would create a history through his deeds.
My wish for Shykh Seraj is that he goes even deeper to the roots of the soil and discovers a new Bangladesh. I also pray that Shykh Seraj dedicate his whole life for the development of the country. I believe he is the icon and a living legend in the development of agriculture and industry through the media world in Bangladesh. His deeds would make him immortal.
My earnest wish is to see that Shykh Seraj will go to the roots of the soil and keep on discovering all the new agricultural prospects of Bangladesh. The way he is dedicating his whole life for the development of the country…is really amazing and I also pray for him on that note. His deeds would make him immortal.
Shykh Seraj of Mati O Manush

Dr. M. Shamser Ali
I know Shykh Seraj for a very long time. A well-known figure in Bangladesh. He is the owner of Impress Telefilm Ltd. /Channel-i, but that is not his real identity. He has travelled extensively over the roads and lands of Bangladesh. He has unveiled the problem of the farmers of Bangladesh to the government and the concerned scientists. He has put forward their problems visually, not only through by words. He has been able to make farmers speak out their problems. The farmers are very grateful to him
Shykh Seraj presented the programme Hridoye Mati O Manush very effectively. His real identity is that he is a friend of the down-trodden people and a man of the soil. When this Shykh Seraj started Mati O Manush on BTV, he did not perform his duties only as a producer. In his every work, there was motivation.
He motivated the people to get involved with cultivation, tree plantation, poverty and livestock rearing and thereby played a very significant role in developing our agriculture.
Many farmers of this country are doing excellent work silently…unnoticed and unsung. Some are engaged in cultivation of grape, guava or poultry farming. With his talent, Shykh Seraj picked them up through untiring efforts and brought them on the TV screen. This is really a matter of pride. This has also enhanced the honour of Shykh Seraj. When people realized that by planting a tree or cultivating a land he is not only earning for himself, but also contributing to the economy of the country then they become inspired and go for longer venture in agriculture.
In his programme, Shykh Seraj has highlighted the importance of research, training and education in the traditional farming. Due to this, many educated people of the country have come forward in the field of agriculture like the developed world. Once upon a time, one used the word ‘Chasha’ for the farmers, which indicated them to be petty person. Shykh Seraj has taken the farmer to new height of honour. I congratulate him for this excellent achievement. Shykh Seraj is very close to me. When I was the Vice Chancellor of the Open University, Shykh Seraj alon with Faridur Reza Sagar used to make a programme, titled, BOUBI-12. They contributed immensely to the development of my studio as well.
It is very difficult to guess how labourious he is when I find Shykh Seraj attained in suit and tie. He becomes a friend of the common people, a farmers’ friend when he mixes with the villagers, sit down on the grass wearing a half-shirt and a trouser. We then understand his heart is with the rural people and with agriculture. His heart has a special place for farmers, soil and the country. I wish him the best. Hope, his contribution to the economy of Bangladesh witll increase day by day. I pray for his long life.
Congratulations! Shykh Seraj

The most important job Shykh Seraj has accomplished is to bring television and agriculture nearer to each other. TV is modern whereas agriculture is ancient. These too had never come closer to each other, not to speak of having cordial relation. Shykh Seraj’s programmes have given a new dimension to agriculture which has enormous potentialities and on which we depend on my ways. As a result, agriculture development has a new boost. For this, we are grateful to Shykh Seraj.
TV is a very effective and expensive media, which covers entertainment and News presentation most of the time. This is followed by a chain of advertisements. Of course, advertisement now a days is in the forefront and between the gaps, we come to see the programmes. Even, advertisement has superseded the importance of News presentation. All these have resulted in gross misuse of money, time and talent.
To our utter surprise, we find that agricultural programme of Shykh Seraj is not only exception to this but a bold protest as well. His commitment to agriculture is very strong as without this, he could not have produced such programme. Why commitment alone, he has also put in his talent and hard labour. These too have been together otherwise it would have been ineffective. Shykh Seraj is both an artist and a worker as well. That is why his programmes are entertaining, innovative and multi-dimensional. Of course, educational value is also there. His programmes bear testimony to the fact that an educational programme can also be made entertaining.
His interest in agriculture originates from his commitment to the farmer. There lies the real truth. He loves the farmers, respects them and wants to work for them. He reaches the farmers with new technologies and returns from the farmers with their feedback. Nobody has done it before. If anyone follows him, we will of course, be benefited.
I don’t watch TV regularly, but I try to manage time to watch Shykh Seraj’s programme and I enjoy it. I had been watching his programme from the days he started his Mati O Manush on BTV. My wife Nazma Jasmine is great fan of his programme. I wish Shykh Seraj’s continued development and perfection in production and presentation of his programme.
